Fairfield Recorder - Feb 22, 1901
The following obituary notice from the Duncan (Indian Territory) Herald has been received by the Recorder, and we give it a place in our columns, as the family of the deceased lady were for many years residents of our county:

"...On Tuesday, January 15th, after an illness of only six days, Mrs. Elvira Jane Sellers, beloved wife of Mr. J. D. Sellers, departed this life. Mrs. Sellers was born in Sumpter county, Miss., on Dec 2, 1852, and was married to Mr. Sellers in Hinds county, Miss., on Aug 2d, 1869. With her husband and family she moved to Texas, in Jan 1870, where she resided until a year or so ago they moved to Duncan. She was for a number of years a devout member of the Missionary Baptist Church. She was a true Christian lady, in every sense of the word, was loved and respected by all who knew her. Besides her husband she leaves three children to mourn the loss of a wife and mother, besides a host of friends"
