Mary “Liz” Elizabeth Stringer, 71, went to be with our Lord on May 27, 2011, after a brave battle with cancer.

She was born to William Lee Gragg and Loma Gray Gragg on July 24, 1939 in Idabel, Oklahoma.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Monroe, Clyde, Beady, Dobber and Cotton Gragg.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Ernie Ramsey, San Leon, Texas; daughter, Susan Greenwood, Midwest City, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Sarah and Austin Greenwood; sister and brother-in-law, Ginger and Laurence Barrett, Broken Bow; and sisters Bonnie Edmondson, Idabel, Betty Biddle, Oklahoma City; and Jody Rains, Livingston, Texas.

After graduating from Idabel Gray High School, she moved to Oklahoma City where she went to work for Tinker Air Force Base. She retired from TAFB as a Logistics Management Specialist after 33 years of service and two tours in Sicily, Italy where she worked on the ground launch missiles. She was very proud of her service and was dedicated to serving our country. She loved traveling throughout Europe making friends everywhere she went.

After retirement, she worked part-time for Dr. Luther Strickland and Dr. Felix Kay, of Midwest City. She had a great love of animals, especially her dog Poco.

Reading was another passion of hers and literally devoured books her entire life. She was very proud of her American Indian heritage and could not learn enough about the culture. She attended all of her high school reunions and enjoyed seeing all the people she grew up with. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family but especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Our mother was a beautiful woman with a very loving heart. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed staying active. She was not only our mother but our friend. She was always there to listen and offer her wisdom. She helped us and her friends whenever we were in need.

It will be difficult to carry on without her. Nonna will truly be missed by all that know her. The death of a mother is the first sorrow wept without her.

The memorial service will be Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Ford Funeral Home, in Midwest City, in the Candlewood Chapel at 7:00 p.m. and in Idabel on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. at the Redland Methodist Church at Redland, Oklahoma.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.
