Edmund R. Armatys, 88, of Grand Island, NE, formerly of Cedar Rapids, NE, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Tiffany Square in Grand Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday July 19 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE with Monsignor Ralph Steffensmeier officiating. Interment following at parish cemetery with military rites conducted by Dan Cox American Legion Post #44 of Cedar Rapids, NE.

Edmund Raymond Armatys, the son of Stanley and Valeria (Micek) Armatys was born September 12, 1927 on the family farm southwest of Cedar Rapids. He was a lifelong member of St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE. He attended Boone County District # 29 and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1944. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict, serving that time at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas. He was honorably discharged February 28, 1954, and returned home to farm. He lived and farmed southwest of Cedar Rapids until becoming a resident of Tiffany Square Care Center, Grand Island in November 2010, where he resided until the time of his death.

Survivors include one sister-in-law, Leona Armatys of Cedar Rapids. 13 nieces and nephews and their families along with numerous friends in the Cedar Rapids area and the many close relationships he formed at Tiffany Square.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Frances and her husband Frank Ziemba, a brother Theodore, a brother Stanley (Bud) and his wife Theresa with whom he shared his home along with their surviving daughters, Joyce and Jane.
