K. Jean (Karschner) Ackerly, 98, of Souderton, PA, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at The Community at RockHill, Sellersville, PA. Born December 10, 1917 in Hector, PA, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Katheryn E. (Acker) Karschner. On August 23, 1945, she married Elliott E. Ackerly who preceded her in death on July 3,2004. Jean received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mansfield State Teachers College. She was a former member and pianist of the Central Baptist Church in Binghamton, NY. She lived at Practical Bible College (now Davis College) for 50 years, where she taught and traveled with the students' singing group, retiring in 1988. She loved playing the piano and listening to music. Jean greatly enjoyed reading and the challenge of completing word search and jigsaw puzzles. She received the most enjoyment from being with people, especially her family. Surviving are one son, Robert E. (Lisa) Ackerly, Discovery Bay, CA; three daughters, Cheryl (Brent) Sandy, Winona Lake, IN; Karen (Bob) Tybring, Souderton, PA, and E. Jeanine Ackerly, Petaluma, CA; two brothers, W. Guy (Beverly) Karschner, Galeton and Richard L. (June) Karschner, Mechanicsburg, PA; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was predeceased by a brother, Rodney Karschner and a sister, V. June Green. Friends may call at the Hess Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Collins Chapel, Galeton, on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 12:00 pm-1:00pm. A Graveside Service will be conducted at West Hill Cemetery in Galeton following the visitation at 1:00pm. The Rev. Brent Sandy will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Davis College, Johnson City, NY.
