Mrs. Buford (Doris) Thomas, age 81, of Leroy, passed away late Tuesday morning, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident near her home.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at The Leroy Church, with the Rev. Greg Way officiating.

Mrs. Thomas was born on February 15, 1924 in Hillsboro, the daughter of Roy Ollie and Zelma Ruth (Taylor) Thompson. She attended school in Hillsboro and graduated from West High School. On October 11, 1941 in Waco, she was united in marriage to Buford Robert Thomas. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1997. She worked as a clothing salesclerk for Pursley's in West for several years until her retirement. She also worked for James Connally Air Force Base in Waco. Doris loved the outdoors and enjoyed taking care of all her animals. Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed spending time with them. She was a member of The Leroy Church, The Rebekkah's Ladies Auxiliary of the Odd Fellows in Leroy and the Leroy City Council.

A sister, Patsy Kasberg, also precedes her in death.

Survivors include four sons, James Robert Thomas and wife Barbara of Piketon, Ohio, Kerry Lee Thomas of Galveston, Jon L. Thomas and wife Sharon of Fairfax, Virginia and Dennis A. Thomas and wife Jane of Robinson; one daughter, Cheryl Clemons and husband Gene of Galveston; two sisters, Betty Straten of Burleson and Maureen Thomas of Kerrville; sixteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
