DIED. In this village on Tuesday last, Capt. Thomas Hoskins, aged 61 years. He was among the first settlers of this township, if not the first, and during a long life of usefulness, maintained an unsullied name; and died lamented by a large number of relatives and friends. He cast the first vote for Gen. Jackson ever polled in Hardy twp, was a warm and zealous Democrat to the day of his death, and was carried to the polls last fall and voted for Polk. He died with a hope of blessed immortality beyond the grave.
There was no regular burying ground here at this time and when old Mr. Hoskins and his wife, quite an aged couple living north of town in a cabin in an old clearing, died, they were buried on the first bench on the hill just east of old town south of the Berlin Road, in the Woods.
Was the first settler on the town plat of Millersburg.
First postmaster of Millersburg.
Operated a tavern in Millersburg.
Son Tobias born 1820 is considered the first white child born in Millersburg.
Erected a story and a half long house in 1819 and opened a schoolhouse.
