Sylvester B. Klopp was born the son of Benneville Darius Klopp and Meldarina Katharina Katterman Klopp in Mount Aetna, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was the husband of Winnie Batdorf Klopp, who survived him by more than 16 years.

He and his wife were the parents of an infant stillborn dauther, Arthur Newton Klopp, Edgar Ormand Klopp, and Kathryn Luella Klopp, all of whom died very young and are buried together in the Trinity United Brethren Church Cemetery in Mount Aetna, Berks County, Pennsylvania. They were also the parents of Paul Benneville, Russell William, Nelson Theodore, and Miriam Elizabeth Klopp, all of whom lived to adulthood. Kathryn Luella was the twin sister of Miriam Elizabeth.

He was the brother of Dr. John Adam Klopp, Samuel P. Klopp, Minerva Mary Klopp Boeshore, Almeda Liza Klopp Winter, Albert Clayton Klopp, Kathryn Elnora Klopp, Valentine Isaac Klopp, William Josiah Klopp, and Sylvanus Isaiah Andrew Klopp.

He was a prominent Shillington, Pennsylvania, lodgeman and businessman. He was the first noble grand of Shillington Lodge 1175, Independent Order of Odd Fellows in 1911 and was a past District Deputy Grand Master. He served as secretary of the Shillington Lodge in 1937.

For 29 years he was in the general merchandising business, operating a store at 6th and Pine Streets in Reading for nine years and in Shillington for 20 years.

He was one of the organizers and directors of the Keystone Wholesale Grocery Co. and a founder of the Shillington Christian Association in 1918.

An organizer and former director of the Shillington Building and Loan Association, he was in the real estate business for 31 years. He served as vice president of the Shillington Fire Company in 1926.

He served as president of the Shillington Chamber of Commerce and borough council in 1926. He was a member of Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church, Reading Lodge 549, F & AM, Reading Consistory, Rajah Temple, and Knights of Malta Post 277, Reading. Other affiliations were Shillington Council 186, Order of Independent Americans, Travelers Protective Association, Post C, Reading, and the Shillington Golden Age Club.

He was a descendant of Martinus Walborn, Sr., his third great grandfather and a soldier of the American Revolution.
