She was born August 16, 1907 in Cloquet, the daughter of Isaac and Amanda (Pekkala) Sjogren. She was raised in Esko and as a child attended the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Esko.
She spent her adult life in Duluth and married Louis Brandt in 1940 in Duluth. She worked at Nopeming Hospital, the Marshall Fields Store in Duluth and as a private cook and nanny for several families in the area.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Brandt; an infant daughter, Sherri Lois Brandt; her parents, Isaac and Amanda; her step-father, Jack Hiltunen; sisters, Florence Matten, Phoebe Arthur and Dorothy Niemela; two nephews, David Maghan and Brian Arthur and a niece, Nancy Haglund.
Violet is survived by her many nieces and nephews and many Brandt nieces and nephews. Violet's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff and workers at Nopeming Nursing Home for the wonderful loving care they gave to Violet for the five years she resided there and to the staff of The Waters of Park Point for their love and care they gave to Violet for the last month. They would also like to thank the hospice staff for their brief but tender care of Violet.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 20, 2002 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. A time of fellowship and lunch followed in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Park, Hermantown.
