Roy was a life-long member of First Baptist Church of Sweetwater. He was a veteran of the Korean War, a mason and retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory after 39 years of service. He loved kids of all ages and was known throughout Sweetwater as "Pappy".
Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Elizabeth "Joan" Thomas, daughter Tammy Marlene Thomas, parents Luke and Ella (Haun) Thomas, brothers: Lester, Sam and Clyde Thomas and sisters Anna Rae Morrison, Pauline McPhail, Mae Inman and June Thomas.
Survivors include: sister Mildred McGinnis of Lenoir City; sons Steve Thomas (Susan Powers) of Sweetwater, Scott Thomas (Debbie) of Sweetwater and Barry Thomas (Terri) of Topeka, KS; grandchildren Kesha Thomas Badget (Thomas) of Sweetwater, Justin Vineyard (Katie) of Sweetwater, Katie Thomas of Brandon, FL, Aaron Thomas of Melbourne, AU, David Thomas of Knoxville, Zachary and Gabriel Thomas of Topeka, KS, Joshua Thomas of Sweetwater and Elijah Powers of Sweetwater. Two great grandchildren Reagan Elizabeth Badgett and Piper Ann Vineyard, both of Sweetwater.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 18, 2016, at Kyker Funeral Homes, Sweetwater, from 5:30P.M. until 7:30P.M. with the funeral service to follow at 7:30P.M. in Kyker's Chapel with Dr. Frank Crawford officiating. Interment 1:00P.M. on Tuesday in the Sweetwater Memorial Park, with full military honors provided by the members of the Sweetwater V.F.W. Gold Star Post 5156, members of the Monroe County Disabled American Veterans Association Chapter# 93, and members of the Sweetwater American Legions Chapter #106.
