On Tuesday, July 12, 2016, Tom Swartz, surrounded by his loving wife and kids, went to fish with his Dad and Grandpa Mike in heaven. Tom was a husband, father, grandfather, stepfather, son, brother, friend to all and always a tease.

Words were hard for Tom as his brain cancer progressed but he never was anything but the great man we always knew, never losing his witty charm, sense of humor and smile. During his two and half year battle with this terrible disease, he was the definition of strength and courage showing the world how truly amazing he was.

Born March 18, 1958 to Anthony "Tony" and Lenora "Connie" (Gurnsey) Swartz, the sixth of seven children. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes, Central Catholic and graduated from CMR in 1976. Tom was the State Defensive MVP and a member of the CMR championship football team in 1975. He played in the East West Shrine Game, and went on to Carroll College and Montana State University to play football but life called and Tom had things to do.

Tom was married to Suzanne Patterson and from that union two sons and two daughters were born and from there the family grew: Jared (Jana) Swartz of Lolo and their children Mia, Charlie and Ellie; Kattie (Kirk) Meyer of Great Falls and their daughter Marias; Joslin (Nathan) Hubbard of Butte and their daughters Natalee and Addalin; Kody (Nicole) Swartz of Lolo and their daughter Claire. Tom was a loving and proud dad and grandpa and adored by his kids and grandkids.

Tom worked with his brothers in the family construction business and then he worked for Pacific before a life changing accident had him change his profession. Tom then worked for Patterson Enterprises, and Tri-County Mechanical as a union tinner before starting his own HVAC business Alpine Heating and Air which he ran for 7 years until health made him retire.

Tom married Betty Moser Vick and with that union Tom became the stepfather to four sons and grandfather to more: Travis (Lauren) Vick of Fort Worth TX and their children Tanner, Mason, Parker and Hunter, Nathan (Kristin) Vick of Power and their children Natalie, Josie, Allie and Wesley, Zack (Amilee) of Power and their children Breyer, Peyton and Teren, and Brett Vick of Phoenix AZ. Betty took wonderful care of Tom to the very end, and his family is forever grateful for Betty's love and devotion.

Tom loved to egg sack fish in the Missouri River and hunt for antelope, deer and elk. He loved everything about Montana especially driving the back roads.

Tom was preceded in death by his fraternal and maternal grandparents, Michael and Mary Swartz and John and Emma Gurnsey and his father, Tony Swartz.

Tom is survived by his wife, Betty Swartz, his children and their families, his stepsons and their families, his mother Connie Swartz, his brothers Robert, Ray (Cynde), Clarence (Linda), his sisters Shirley (Robert) Young, Betty Campbell, and Tina (Kevin) Peterson. Many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Tom loved his dogs who are with him in heaven: Newt, Griz and Badger. Dakota stays with Betty in the family home keeping the bunnies in check.

Thank you to all who loved, cared for and supported Tom.
