He was born May 11, 1926, in Elkhart, Ind., to the late Charles Arthur and Harriett Ellen Splady Thompson.
Richard served his country in the U.S. Army, during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1945, after serving in the European Theater. He received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in 1950 where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and later a member of the IU Alumni Association.
Richard married Virginia (Beege) Dare in 1953, and was the owner/operator of Thompson Manufacturing.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at The Reserve at Hamilton Trace, 9974 Federalist Drive, Fishers, IN 46037.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Suzann (Sue) Thomson (Kelly) and grandchildren, Morgan and Jack Thomson;
His wife, Virginia Dare Bentz Thompson and two sisters, Margaret Ann Penrod and Mary Ellen Link, preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana University Foundation.
