Sophia Lewis was the daughter of George Lewis, a Carpenter by trade, and Ann Winter.
She married James Burt and had a son Lewis.
She then married Joseph Austen on 11 April 1839 at Rolvenden, Kent, England.
The family emigrated to Australia in 1838 on the James Patterson.
Sophia died on 31 July 1893 at Ramornie, near Grafton, NSW, and was buried on the property.
