Member of the historic Carrillo and Bandini families of California. Her grandfather, Carlos Antonio Carrillo, was the governor of Alta California during the late 1830s. Her husband, James Nelson Dowling, was a descendant of U.S. President John Adams. She was the aunt of actor and Santa Monica conservationist Leo Carrillo. From the Los Angeles Times, Sept. 6, 1939:
