Frank William McCorry, whose Ohio birth record lists his name as William Frances McCorry, was the oldest child of William Henry McCorry and Minta Cloea (Emory) McCorry. His father is also buried in St. Margaret's Cemetery, but is not on Find A Grave.

On 24 January 1918 Private Frank W. McCorry of the 100th Aero Squadron was aboard the troopship S.S. "Tuscania" departing for Le Havre, France. The Tuscania was torpedoed and sunk on the evening of 5 February 1918 by German submarine UB-77 in the North Channel between Scotland and Ireland. He was rescued and taken to Northern Ireland. From there he made his way to Winchester, England, where he spent some time before deploying to France.

It was falsely reported in the Official Bulletin in Washington D.C. (9 December 1918) that Frank W. McCorry of Chillicothe Co., Ohio was a casualty in France. His father's address was reported as William H. McCorry 371 Vine Street, Ross, Ohio.

Frank returns from World War I aboard the "Saxonia" in August 1918. His military serial number was 249,901.

The "Chillicothe (OH) Gazette" of Friday, 6 December 1918, page 1 reported that Frank McCorry was hospitalized in Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D.C. It reported he had been injured while in Texas at flight training, had survived the sinking of the "Tuscania" but then was injured in fighting. When he is discharged from the Army on 19 March 1919, he is rated as 100% disabled.

In the 1900 census, William F. McCorry [Frank] lived with his parents William and Minta in Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio, with his siblings Mary, Charles, John and Agnes M. In the 1910 census, his widowed father William H. McCorry lives with his children William F. [Frank], Zulem [Mary Zuleme], Charles A., John W., Agnes M. & David P. in Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio.

In the 1930 census for Scioto, Ross County, Ohio, Franklin W. McCorry resides in U.S. Veterans Hospital 97. In 1940, Franklin W. McCorry lives in the U.S. Veterans Hospital in Union, Ross County, Ohio, where he had also resided in 1935.

His obituary appeared in the "Zanesville (OH) Times Recorder" of Thursday, 12 June 1952, page 9, in which his name appears as William Francis McCorry.

NEW LEXINGTON, O. June 11 - William Francis McCorry, 61, a veteran of World War I, died in the Veterans hospital, Chillicothe, Wednesday morning.

He is survived by three brothers, Charles A. McCorry of New Lexington, Paul McCorry of Zanesville, and John McCorry of Hearn [sic/Hearne], Texas, and by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Schael [sic/Scheaf] of Columbus, and Mrs. Marcella Montgomery of Detroit, Mich.

The body has been removed to the Egan Ryan funeral home in Columbus, and burial will be in Chillicothe probably on Saturday.
