Married in 1887 in Appalachicola to Mary Davis, daughter of James and Ellafair (Hall) Davis. They had one child, Byron Southerland Cole, born in 1888. During the Civil War, Chauncy served in the Kentucky Volunteers on the Union side. Little is known about his life before he moved to Appalachicola around 1884.

Notes about the Headstone:
On the headstone there is some superficial organic matter over the first initial of his name that may make it look like a "G". I was there and traced the letter with my finger, it is indeed a "C". The "U. S. A." on the headstone is for "United States Army", and refers to his Civil War service for the Union. This was quite a surprise for the family because all our other Appalachicola ancesters had served for the Confederacy, and it was just assumed Chauncy had as well.
