BARABOO - Ilene M. "Jinx" Rohrer, age 87, of Baraboo, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2012, at St. Clare Meadows Care Center in Baraboo.
She was born on July 29, 1924, in Trempealeau, the daughter of Ed and Ella (Babbit) Newcomb. She attended Trempealeau Public Schools and after graduation enlisted in the United States Coast Guard Women's Reserve. She served her country as a radioman second class during World War II and was awarded the American Campaign Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. After her discharge, she worked at Northern Engraving in La Crosse and trained for a private pilot's license. In 1958, she married John J. Rohrer and their union resulted in the birth of her only child.
Ilene is survived by her son, Jon Rohrer of Orlando, Fla.; sister, Millie Peterson of Baraboo; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, John Rohrer; sister, Helen Aichele; and brother, Lynn Newcomb.
Her body will be cremated and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Redlin Funeral Home in Baraboo is assisting the family.
