NATOMA JOYCE (HALL) HOOTEN PORTAGE, IN
August 13, 1931 December 15, 2014 Natoma Hooten passed away Monday, December 15, 2014 at Golden Living in Portage, IN.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Schererville, IN. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Bill Hall officiating. Family will have a private witness burial at the gravesite on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.

Natoma was born in Kentucky on August 13, 1931 to the late James and Nora (Yontz) Todd. She was preceded in death by siblings Russell (Alma) Todd, Leon (Helen) Todd, Buedith (Robert) Black and husband Lawrence Hooten.

She is survived by sister Emogene Myers of Louisville, KY and sons: Terry (Susan) Hall of LaPorte, IN and Kevin Hall of Lansing, IL; her grandchildren: Nickole, Brandon, Brittani, Trent, Keenin; and great grandchild Christian. She is also survived by stepchildren: LaVonne, Joe, Lori and step grandchildren; not to forget numerous nieces and nephews.

Natoma was married in Cleaton, KY to Chester Hall and soon moved to Hammond, IN where she had two sons. She was a stay at home mom early in her life before working for Queen Ann Candy Factory. Her sons sure got a lot of chocolate covered cherries when she would come home for the day! She became a salesperson for J.C. Penney where she loved to interact with the customers. Later on in her life she sold World Book Encyclopedia and won many awards including "Salesperson of the Year" and "Galaxy of Stars Award-Grand Champion". Her bubbly and loving personality made it hard for people to say no when it came time to purchase the books.

On Dec. 29, 1978 she married Larry "Sammy" Hooten after getting permission from her sons, which she didn't need to but that was the way she was. She was always trying to make sure everyone was happy and she always put everyone else's needs before hers. This marriage increased her family with two daughters and another son who she treated and loved just as much as her own. This family (even as most were adults) grew to love and respect each other which made her proud, and when the new great grandchildren came along it was no different for them.

Natoma's love and passion for life was contagious and rubbed off onto everyone she met, a stranger or not it didn't matter. That's why most people loved her in many different ways and if you were around her for very long you probably heard her sing and you probably had to learn how to dance the Jitterbug because she would not take no for an answer. I know she loved the nurses that took care of her in time of need and especially her guardian Rodd Noel and his family for everything they did for her and the love they expressed. I know I appreciate everything they did for her and she did also. Their love and passion for her will never be forgotten. Natoma was a wonderful mother and compassionate person and if you did not get to meet her you missed something in life! In lieu of flowers please make your donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation in your area.
