Bertha Golden Marcus, much loved mother and grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 after years of suffering with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on June 27, 1917 in San Antonio, where she lived most of her life. She graduated from Brackenridge High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she met her love, Sylvan H. Golden, who predeceased her in 1989. They were happily married more than fifty years and had two sons. Bert was a wonderful wife and mother, who did everything she possibly could to enhance her family members' lives and make them happy. At this, she was enormously successful, to the eternal gratitude of her loved ones. In 1995, Bert married Hyman Marcus, whom both she and Sylvan had known for many years. Hy's first wife, Hortense, had died the same year as Sylvan. He passed away in March of this year. During the last several years of her life, Bert was robbed of her thoughtful and vigorous mind by Alzheimer's disease. But her life was lengthened and made immeasurably better through the tender and loving care and attendance she received during her declining years from her devoted caregiver, Lisa Janes, and her assistant, Amanda Juarez. The family is most grateful for their kind devotion to Bert. Bert is survived by her sons, Steve Golden and wife, Marlene, of Austin and their children, Jeff Golden and wife, Celia, of Greenbrae, California, Lori Golden and husband, Greg Barnes, of Dallas, Robert Golden and wife, Tam, and their children, Ben Golden of San Antonio, Paul Aguilar of Denver, and Laura Aguilar of El Paso; great-grandchildren, Adriana Golden, Alexander Golden, Dylan Barnes; step-sons, Stanley Marcus and wife, Joanna, of San Antonio, Donald Marcus and wife, Barbara, of Austin.
