Frankie Adkins, 18, was killed instantly early Sunday when he was struck by a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train near the Main Street crossing in New Castle.

Dr. Calvin Steussey, Henry County coroner, ruled accidental death. Paul Phillips, engineer, said he saw Adkins on tracks but could not stop the train in time. The body was dragged 900 feet and badly mangled. Identification was established through a billfold on the body. There were no other witnesses to the accident.

The youth was a lifelong resident of New Castle and an employee of Brooks Foods, Inc., at Mt. Summit.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Frances Craig; two sisters, Ruby Williams and Judy Kay Adkins; four brothers, Charles, Tommy. Donnie and Jimmie; and his grandmother, Mrs. Minnie Adkins.

Graveside services were conducted this afternoon at Southmound Cemetery.
