ST. HELENS, Ore. -- Scappoose, Ore., police officers arrested Scott Nolan Scott, 26, of Scappoose Saturday morning on suspicion of murder.

According to a statement by the Columbia County District Attorney's office, Scott was charged with murder in connection with the death of Ronald James Overstreet, 26, of St. Helens.

About 2 a.m., there was a report of a shooting in St. Helens, according to the Columbia County Sheriff's office. Scott's arrest was made about 8 a.m. after an investigation by personnel of the Columbia County Major Crimes team, made up of officers from the St. Helens and Scappoose police departments, the Columbia County Sheriff's office and Oregon State Police.

Ron attended Newport Middle School during the 1993-94 school year, he was a classmate of mine and I thought of him as a friend during that year. Unfortunately I never heard from him after he moved away, like so many other kids who went on to different schools and cities. I was very saddened to hear of his passing only the other day while reading the local newspaper, so in memory of him I created this memorial page.
