Eugene Leigh McCarty, the son of Gordon Leigh McCarty and Minnie Irene Totten (who met while both in the Salvation Army).

Eugene married Bertie Margaret Day and had two sons:

2. Vaughn Allan McCarty

Eugene was Gordon's oldest son and had two sisters:

When his parents were divorced and his mother married John Jethro Shepphird, a traveling salesman, and moved to California, his father, a Salvation Army Captain, went to the train station to pick up a man, saw another member of the Salvation Army: Elizabeth May Patrick (12 years his junior), gave her a ride instead, and they were married and had five sons and a daughter:
