Charles F. "Charlie Basek Jr., 76, a longtime resident of North Riverside, died Oct. 25, 2006 at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
A U.S. Army veteran who served from 1951-53 during the Korean War, Mr. Basek spent 35 years as a machinist for the Commonwealth Edison company.
For 46 years, he lived in North Riverside. For 45 years he was an active North Riverside firefighter, a 49-year member of American Legion Post #118 and a member of the Mater Christi Church Holy Name Society.
Mr. Basek's two sons, Brian (Patricia) and David, followed in their father's footsteps. Brian serves as a lieutenant on the North Riverside Fire Department, while David is chief of the Tri-State Fire Protection District.
Mr. Basek is also survived by his wife, Geraldine "Jeri" (nee Hromec) Basek; his daughter, Karen (Ken) Rouleau; and nine grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was held Oct. 28 at Mater Christi Church in North Riverside, followed by entombment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Memorial contributions were appreciated to Mater Christi Church, 2401 10th Ave., North Riverside, Ill. 60546.
