Enlisted 4 August 1917 and honorably discharged 13 June 1919. Promoted from private to private 1st class. Serial number 249844.

Archie was aboard the troopship "Tuscania" when it was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine UB-77 on the evening of 5 February 1918 in the North Channel between Scotland & Ireland.

Son of Cyrus Partridge Gillette and Lovina Ellen Gillette.

Archie was the youngest of their five children. His siblings:
