Mr. Henry M. Sadler, 81, of Newport News, Va., died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, Newport News, Va., with Richard Pulsifer officiating. Burial will be private. Mr. Sadler was born in Washington, but moved early in his life to the Virginia Peninsula where he lived for 40 years. He was a graduate of Newport News High School. He served in the Navy for four years, where he was in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with One Star. He worked for NACA for 10 years and then spent 29 years in banking. He retired from the Bank of Virginia as executive vice president in 1985. He coached basketball, served on PTAs, worked with the Boy Scouts, the Rotarians, the Better Business Bureau and the Virginia College Fund. For many years he was chairman of the National Society to Prevent Blindness. He was married to Betty Sadler, who survives. Survivors include five children, Carol S. Contarino of Richmond, Va., Henry M. Sadler III of Hawaii, Mark S. Sadler of Roanoke, Va., William P. Sadler of Chesterfield, Va., and Karen K. Sadler of Richmond, Va.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home following the memorial service.
