A native of Maryland, Mr. Ballard was a son of the late Walter Leonard Sr. and Rose Mary Ballard. He was retired.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest. Burial will be in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ballard; six daughters, Cindy Ragab, Stone Mountain, Diana Burkett, Demorest,, Kimberly Ballard, Pasadena, Md., Donna Clark, Meadow View, Va., Lisa Ballard, Brookland Park, Md., and Darlene Ballard, Houston, Texas; four sons, Gary Ballard, Crownsville, Md., Michael Miller, Hillsville, Va., Mark Miller, Marietta, and Michael Ballard, Pasadena, Md.; a sister, Marlene Parker, Ocean City, Md.; 26 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4-5 and 8-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Notes on Walt Ballard. Owned a civil engineering firm (Survey Services, Inc.) started in Maryland that moved to Georgia to develop Peachtree City in approximately 1971. Active in drag racing, he ran a former Maryland State Police cruiser known at Super Trooper. Business closed in approximately 1975.
