Carl E. Moody, 85, of Grand Haven and formerly of Dowling and Battle Creek, died Saturday, June 24, at a nursing home in Grand Haven. He was born in Dowling and raised in Battle Creek. He was a 1927 graduate of University of Michigan. After a short time with the Air Reduction Corp., he joined Penn Mutual Insurance Co., Detroit, in 1932 and worked as a life underwriter for 54 years. While becoming a member of his company's Million Dollar Round Table, he earned the title associate general agent of the Detroit office. He had lived in Grand Haven 20 years. He was president of the Michigan Life Underwriters Association, president of the state organization of the Kiwanis and was twice president of its Northwest Detroit Branch. He was president of Redford High School Parent Teachers Association and an elder at Bushnell Congregational Church. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Isobel Louise, a daughter Josephine Miller of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a son, William Scott Moody of New York; two grandchildren; sisters, Ann Clark of California, Florence Ostrander of Arizona and Nora Cable of Barryton; and brothers, George and James F. Moody both of Battle Creek. Services were held Tuesday in Grand Haven. Memorial donations may go to te University of Michigan in memory of Carl Moody, class of 1927. Arrangements are by Van Zantwick, Bartels & Kammeraad Funeral Home, Grand Haven.
