Robert was born in Mount Ayr, Iowa, the son of William John Buck and Mary Elizabeth Wallace. He had six siblings: John Wallace who was his twin brother, William Brown, Mary Elizabeth, James Sumner, Margaret Ann and Samuel Finley. Robert was married to Martha Luella Ashenhurst on August 22, 1895 in Ringgold County, Iowa. They were the parents of Raymond Robert, Mary Margaret, William John and Lois Pearl. Robert died November 29, 1938 in Ringgold County, Iowa.
