Nellie Basha (Bashie) Kane Williams, age 83, died Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon, IL. Bashie was born to Earl and Lora (Hayes) Kane on January 31, 1933, in Ripley County and spent most of her life on family farms in Poynor, Missouri.

She was married July 8, 1950, to Harman Williams, who predeceased her in 2013.

Bashie was an excellent seamstress & tailor, gardener, cook, and loved all of her beagles and granddogs. She dearly loved her farm and missed it greatly after moving to Glen Carbon, Illinois in 2011, but loved being able to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and gatherings with grandchildren. Bashie worked at Hope’s Toggery for many years and was manager of Smith’s Discount for several years.

She is survived by son, Lyndal Williams (Mimi Blanke) of Fenton, Missouri, daughters Janice Joplin of Maryville, Illinois, and Kim (Scott) Cole of West Plains, Missouri. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren surviving are Jim (Sarah) Williams, Emma, Lucy, and Gracie of Belleville, Illinois; Jennifer (Willie) Karius, Tessa, and Will, of O’Fallon, Illinois; Alison (Anthony) Gomes, Bryn, and Blair, of Seattle Washington; Lesley Joplin of Maryville, Illinois; Nichole Huffman of St. Louis, Missouri; and Jamie Huffman of Rogers, Arkansas. Brothers surviving are Lawrence (Carolyn) Kane of Oregon, Ken (Jane) Kane of West Plains, Missouri; and Linden (Janis) Kane of Doniphan, Missouri. Two sisters-in-law also survive, Nema Duffey of Poynor, Missouri, and Juanita Hamil of LaBelle, Florida, along with many nieces and nephews.

Bashie was predeceased by her parents, brothers Robert, Willard, Willis, Warren, and Paul Kane and by sisters, Verna Holland, Irene Davis, and Sylvia Albanesi, nephews Bill and Bruce Kane and niece Mary Lorraine Kane.

Visitation will take place Friday evening, August 5, 2016, from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Saturday afternoon, August 6, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Monty Flanagan officiating. Burial will follow in the Doniphan City Cemetery.
