Ralph Bratton Teasley, Jr., 90, of Huntsville, passed away Thursday. Born in Hartwell, Georgia to Ralph B. Teasley, Sr. and Frances Greene Teasley, Mr. Teasley graduated from Hartwell High School in 1945 and the University of Georgia in 1948 with a Physics Degree. He served in the US Army as Private First Class from 1948-1949 (during WWII) and the Army Reserve from 1949 – 1982 as Major. He married Catherine Heath on December 21, 1950 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta, Georgia. From 1951 – 1953, Mr. Teasley worked at the Department of Food and Drug Administration in Atlanta, Georgia; 1954 – 1957 as a teacher at the Air Defense School at Keisler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi; 1957 – 1958 at Redstone Arsenal for the US Army; and 1958 – 1992 at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center where he retired.
Mr. Teasley was a lifetime member of Holmes Street United Methodist Church. He was a Boy Scoutmaster of Troop 66 at Holmes Street United Methodist Church for 17 years. He was a member of the Huntsville Running Association where running was a way of life; but he also enjoyed bicycling long distances. He loved everyone.
Ralph’s dad owned a grocery store in Hartwell, Georgia and, therefore, the Teasley’s were known early for their generosity. The store remains there as testimony to the Teasley family and their relationship to the community. They were all born in and around Hartwell. Everyone knew them as stalwart members of the First United Methodist Church. Today, one can find that the cemetery is full of the Teasley clan.
In Hartwell schools, he was expected to do above average work and be a leader in the community. He worked hard in his studies and obtained many accolades. Since his mother was a school teacher, she expected her son to advance to higher studies. Our family still experiences the values that were important to our ‘Dad’- the love of God, family, church and helping others.
Our family would like to thank all the people in Huntsville who held him to such high esteem. In his work at Marshall Space Center, in Church and in our community, he has set an example for others to follow. Our family would like to thank all those people who came to his birthday party to celebrate a lifetime of visitation of sick, scout leader in our community and, above all, he has never met a stranger.
Survivors include wife of 67 years, Catherine H. Teasley; sons, Ralph B. Teasley III (Jill) of Anniston, David Heath Teasley (Jane) of Marietta, GA and Charles Alan Teasley (Inna) of New Market; daughter, Gloria Teasley Meszaros (Frank) of Houston, TX; grandsons, Stephen Nelson and Michael David Teasley and Oleksandr Nikonchuk; and numerous nephews and cousins living in Georgia and Tennessee.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday at Holmes Street United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Todd Owen and Rev. Eddie Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holmes Street United Methodist Church Building Fund.
