Obituary: Obituary Collection by Borden Historical Society, page 195, column 3, no newspaper or date given, reads: MANFORD J. DURHAM – Manford J. Durham, son of John and Hannah Durham was born Nov. 24, 1881 and died Aug. 10, 1955, having attained the age of 73 years, 8 months. He was the oldest of a family of six children, Benjamin, George, Maude, Mack, and Charles, all having preceded him in death except George and Mack. He was united in Marriage to Cora Ida Mae Spurgeon, July 3, 1905. To this union were born two daughters, Corabelle and Inis. His wife preceded him in death in 1940. He served three years in U.S. Army during the Spanish American War, entering in September 1901 and discharged in September 1904. Manford and his wife were charter members of the Daisy Hill United Brethren church and faithfully attended as long as his health permitted. He had been in failing health the past three years, spending a greater part of the time in Washington county Memorial Hospital and Veterans Hospital in Louisville, Ky. He bore his suffering with much patience. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, Rebekah and Masonic Lodges of Borden. He was recently presented with a 50-year pin by the Masonic Order. Manford was a loving father, grandfather and neighbor. He will be missed in his home, in the church and in the neighborhood. It can well be said of him, he went about doing good. No night was too dark for him to go sit with a sick neighbor or to help anyone in sorrow or distress. He leaves to mourn him, his daughters, Corabelle Emery and Inis Durham; a granddaughter, Celeste Mae emery; two brothers, George of Peru and Mack of Pekin; two step-brothers, James and Harry Wootan and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Evangelist O.W. Scott, assisted by Evangelist Leslie McCoskey at Daisy Hill Saturday. Burial was in the Daisy Hill Cemetery.
