He has an older sister, Lillian (Acker) Macon who remained in the Lincoln and Birmingham Alabama area. He has a younger brother, Frank Robert Acker who was also born in Lincoln, Talladega County AL and moved to Akron to work for Goodyear too.
Johnnie married Bess Nissen in September 1929 and they had no children.
