Andrew R. Kuthan, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 4, 2014.
Andy was born in Akron on August 22, 1927 to the late Andrew and Elizabeth (Karder) Kuthan. He was a graduate of Garfield High School and his high school fame on the gridiron led him to a football scholarship at Kent State University.
Andy served as a Corporal in the U. S. Army and upon his discharge he played for the semi-professional football team, Burkhart's Brewers. He retired from Aircraft Braking Systems (formerly Goodyear Aerospace) after 44 years of service. Andy enjoyed golfing, watching sports, building and refinishing golf clubs, gardening, and spending winters in Myrtle Beach with his wife. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Andy shared 62 years of marriage with his beloved wife Regina Schafer Kuthan. Together they raised two children, Cindy (John) McDonald and Michael (Patti) Kuthan. He was most proud of his grandchildren, Meghan (Donny) Schenz, Molly McDonald, Michelle DeBarr, Missy (Ryan) Calcei, Lindsay Kuthan; and great-grandchildren, Abigail, Kendall, Brady, Natalia and Emilia.
The family would like to acknowledge the Hospice Care Center for the compassionate care they received.
Mass of a Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis de Sales, Manchester Road, Akron, Ohio , date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers and memorials, please take a moment to perform a random act of kindness or pay-it-forward in Andy's memory.
