Born in Italy in 1881 to parents Gabriel and Valentina (Cuomo) Acampora, Ausilia was the third of five children: Raffaela, Carmela, Ausilia, Adelaine, and Giovanni.The Acampora family left Italy in the early 1900s, first settling in New York City. September 7, 1906 she married Clemente Riccio in Manhattan, NY. They soon after moved to New Haven, CT where they raised 10 children: Michelina, Anthony, Carmel, James, Josphine, Gabriel, Clement, Ausilia, Peter, and Joseph.
