Pauline Annette Cote, age 91, of Saco Avenue, Old Orchard Beach, Maine, passed away in her home on September 3, 2010. She was born Annette Pauline Picard, in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, on February 9, 1919. Pauline, as she was called, was the third born, and the last surviving child of her immediate family of five children. Her parents were Lucieana and Arthur Picard. The Picard family came to the United States when she was four years old where they first lived in Maine, then moved to Vermont, and moved back to Maine where they purchased a dairy farm in Saco, Maine.
Pauline married Fernand A. Cote on August 31, 1940. They then bought a house on Saco Avenue in Old Orchard Beach, Maine in 1951. They were the parents of 9 children. For over twenty years she helped to manage The Chez Fernand Motel and enjoyed the many tourists who became friends over the years to the Cote family. She was a homemaker, devoted wife and grandmother. Pauline was a very talented self taught seamstress, sewing for her family and friends without patterns to follow. She also took care of her husband's grandmother, Leocadie Levesque Mondville, in her old age along with some of her grandchildren, and several area children after school. She was a long-time member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Old Orchard Beach and was active member of the former Ladies Sodality and their prayer group. To many she was the lovely lady with silver hair and blue eyes shoveling her own roof and driveway even when she was 89 years old and still driving her own car to church. She loved gardening, growing plants, being outdoors, and taking walks around the communities. She was a Memere to her grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Her husband, Fern, of 51 years died in 1991. She is predeceased by two of her children, Denise Cote in 1978, and son, Joseph Conrad Cote in 1991. She is survived by five sons, Robert Cote of N.C., Rene Cote of Saco,Donald Cote, Paul Cote of Old Orchard Beach, Maine and Jean Cote of Saco, Maine. She leaves behind two daughters, Pricilla Coteand Madeleine LaPlante, both of Old Orchard Beach, Maine. She had 12 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
