Helen N. (Hanes) Sargent, 89, of Genoa, Ohio, died in the Edward and Marion Knight Hospice Center, Perrysburg, Ohio on Thursday, May 8, 2008. She was born June 28, 1918, to Albert and Emma (Johns) Hanes at Camden Township, Wakeman, Ohio. She attended Camden School in Kipton, Ohio for 12 years, graduating in 1936. After high school she attended Mount Sinai School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio. After one year she left nursing school to marry Ronald E. Sargent on March 26, 1938. Ronald and Helen had five children. In 1954 the family moved to Toledo, Ohio. Helen attended Mary Manse Collage and earned a B.A. Degree in Education. While raising her five children, she was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She taught school for 26 years in the Toledo area; including St. Theresa, St. John's at Point Place, Blessed Sacrament, and Garfield Elementary, retiring in 1981. Helen was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Red Hat Society. Helen and Ronald moved to Genoa in 1972. She was active in the Genoa Garden Club and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She spent much of her time reading, painting, embroidering, swimming, and traveling. Much time was also spent with her grandchildren as well. Preceding Helen in death were her parents; her husband of 57 years, Ronald who died in 1993; her sons, Ronald, Thomas, Robert, and Gene and daughter, Barbara Rodgers; sisters, Gladys Thomas, Marian Hanes, Marjorie Parrish, Laurice Burge, and Leila Lindsey; brothers, Orren, Gerald, Allen, Howard and Robert Hanes; grandson, Donald Sargent and great-grandson, Austin Wilson. Surviving are her grandchildren, Teresa Morris, Lisa Wilson, Jeanne Beck, Jim Rowe, Rick, Mike and Mark Sargent, Tony DeCant, Nick Sargent and Melissa Lanzinger; 16 great-grandchildren and sisters, Irene Erbs, Maurita Lower, and Joan Hawley. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Genoa, followed by interment in the Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa. Visitation will be in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home and Crematory, Genoa, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2008.
