Samuel R. Amundson -- Rochester
The funeral for Samuel R. Amundson will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Homestead United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Buller officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Amundson, 72, of Rochester, a retired Mayo Clinic employee, died of renal failure today (Aug. 14, 1997) at Saint Marys Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born July 10, 1925, in Onalaska, Wis., he lived in Rochester for many years. During World War II he served in the Navy with duty aboard the USS Saratoga. On March 8, 1947, he married Marcella King in Rochester. His wife worked at Rochester Methodist Hospital. A Mayo Clinic employee for about 40 years, Mr. Amundson was a supervisor of cardiac research and later a dialysis technician until his retirement. He was a member of Homestead United Methodist Church and the Eagles Club, had been a goalie for the Rochester Mustangs hockey team, coached youth hockey and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kathy Timmers of Oronoco; three sons, Sam, Kim and John, all of Rochester; four grandchildren; a brother, Donavan of Rochester; and a sister, Shirley Lowrie of Stewartville. He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Ranfranz Funeral Home and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
