The son of Donald E. and Sandra Brockway Alter, Scott McNeil was born on October 24, 1953, in Burlington, IA. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School in 1972, where he was a loyal Panther and an active member of the golf team. He married Kathy Buster on July 7, 1973, in Muscatine, IA.

For many years, Scott worked in various locations and positions for Hy-Vee Food Stores and later had his own business, Alter Glass Service. In recent years, he had served as a subcontractor for other builders throughout central Iowa. His window and door work can be seen in Mt. Pleasant and eastern Iowa. Recently he started his own company again. A proud accomplishment of his was to be a part of the team renovating The Brazelton Hotel in Mt. Pleasant.

As a resident of Mt. Pleasant, Scott spent many hours on the golf course at Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club and at baseball fields coaching Little League for his sons and many others. He was always upbeat and a positive force in many young men’s lives. Scott was vice president of the Mt. Pleasant Athletic Booster Club for many years. He and his wife Kathy ran the concession booth at Panther games for many years, as well as keeping up a tradition of always supporting Panther teams. Scott helped to organize several class reunions. He was a WACO boys and girls golf coach for several years. Scott enjoyed following the stock market and Nascar. While living in Des Moines, he was a member of Des Moines Science Fiction Society and Brass Gears Adventurers Society.

Scott is survived by two sons Rusty (Sashae Kiala) Alter of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Chase Alter of Burlington, IA; his wife, Kathy Alter of Muscatine, IA; three sisters, Penny (Jeff) Vaughan of Ankeny, IA, Wendy (Mark) Lee of Batavia, IL, and Terri Alter of North Liberty, IA; one brother, Brock (Linda) Alter of Hastings, MN; his step-mother, Marilyn Alter of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and a special friend, Sheril Harper of Johnston, IA. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Jaiya Kay Alter and Jahmal Dodson, both of Mt. Pleasant, IA, along with a host of extended family.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents.
