GAFFNEY, March 22

Mrs. Axie Balliew Barnes Thompson, 59, former resident of Greer died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Grace Cothran, Gaffney, Route 6, Wednesday at 11: 00 a.m. following an illness of the past eight months.
Mrs. Thompson was born and reared in upper Greenville County, a daughter of the late J. W. and Martha Farmer Balliew. She had been a resident of Gaffney for the past four years and was a member of the Double Springs Baptist Church near Greer.
Surviving beside her daughter, Mrs. Cothran, are three sons, Talmadge and Charles Barnes, both of Gaffney and James Barnes of Clearwater; two brothers, Freeman Balliew of Greer, Route 1 and George Ballew of Taylors Route 1; one sister, Mrs. S.M. Davis of Ware Shoals, Route 1 and six grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Wood Mortuary in Greer. The family is at the home of a brother, George Balliew, Taylors, Route 1.
