Arthur B. Mason
Services for Arthur B. Mason, 90, retired banker who died Monday in a local convalescent hospital, will be at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, at Finley's Rose chapel, followed by private commitment at Riverview Abbey Crematorium.
Mr. Mason was a clerk, examiner, auditor and notary public for banks in Portland for 50 years, starting his banking experience as a clerk in the First National Bank of Portland in 1901. He later was chief clerk at the Oregon Trust Savings Bank, assistant examiner at Portland Clearing House, auditor and examiner for the Federal Reserve Bank, and finally notary public for the Federal Reserve.
Born March 25, 1870, at Worcester, Mass., Mason resided there until 1896 when he moved to Burns, Ore., and joined with a partner in a merchandise store, Mason & London Co. He served a short time as agent for the Oregon Railway & Navigation Co. at Corvallis and became a purser on a river steamer. He returned to Burns in 1900 as a clerk in the U.S. Land office there.
Survivors include his widow, Matilda, and daughter, Mrs. Caroline M. Myers, of 2135 N.E. 16th Ave.; a son, Draper C. Mason, Quebec, Canada, and four grandchildren.
