MESICK, March 3-William David Furney, 68, died at his home in Mesick about 8:30 Sunday evening following a lingering illness.
Born, August 22, 1879 at mendon in St. Joseph county, he came to Wexford county with his parents at the age of seven. On Jan. 27, 1906 he was joined in marriage to Bertha Carpenter at Mesick by Rev. Bigelow.
Mr. Furney retired from his duties with the railroad company in 1935 due to ill health.
Surviving are his wife, sons, Guy of Cadillac; Loren, Mesick; and Delbert of Healdton, Okla; daughters, Mrs. John (Roceil) Watson, Williamsburg; Mrs. William (Carol) Teide, Adrian; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Malone, Babson, Rochester and Mrs. Charles (Cynthia) Parson, New Port, N.H.; three brothers, Wilson and John of Kalamazoo, and Charles, Battle Creek. Also surviving are eight grand children.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Mesick.
Co-workers with Mr. Furney during the time he was employed by the railroad have been designated honorary pallbearers.

Gravesite Details
Will worked on the railroad and the men he worked with passed the stone on their way to work each day, often commenting on it. They made a pack that the first to die would have that stone on their plot. Will died first, hence this odd stone.
