PALMYRA - Frank August Welte Jr., 90, of Palmyra died Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at his home.

He was born August 26, 1914, in Carlinville, the son of Frank August and Nora Amelia Rathke Welte Sr.

He married Verdie Marie Weatherford in 1940 in Carlinville. A son, Frank August Welte III, preceded him in death.

Mr. Welte was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retired in 1983 as president of The Bank of Palmyra.
He was a member of Palmyra American Legion Post 1034, Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard, charter member of Palmyra Lions Club and was former water commissioner of Palmyra.

Survivors: wife, Verdie; two sons, Tim Edwin (wife, Linda) Welte of Palmyra and Norman E. (wife, Jan) Welte of Morton; daughter, Susan (husband, John) Hammond of Chatham; brother, Robert (wife, Joan) Welte of Carlinville; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Girard, the Rev. Kit Belk officiating.

Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
