From "Mr & Mrs Ruben Allen, Early Settlers"
by Mark Gandara & Roger Purcella:

Ruben Alexander Allen, the fifth child of David Phillip Coleman Allen and his wife Emaline (McAfee) Allen, was born in Lynchburg, Tennessee, on September 20, 1858.

He came to Comanche County during the 1870s as a young man, working on various ranches in the area. He participated in at least one cattle drive up north about 1879.

Mr. Allen returned to Tennessee in 1881 to marry his childhood sweetheart, Miss Martha Melinda "Mattie" Goosby, a twin. The marriage vows were exchanged on August 16, 1881 in Lynchburg.

Martha M. Goosby was 21 at the time, having been born in Lynchburg, Tennessee, on September 26, 1860 to William Goosby and Nancy C. (Adkins) Goosby, who was said to have been a full-blood Indian.

Immediately after their marriage in 1881 the couple moved to Cleburne in Johnson County, Texas. The next year their first child, George Ollie Allen, was born. The following year (1883) the couple moved to Comanche County, where they lived for the rest of their lives except for a three-year stay in Hamilton County.

Five more children were born to the couple--Odus, Viola A, Vera Mae, Chesley, and Floy. These children were all born in Comanche County with the exception of Floy, the youngest. She was born in Hamilton during the time Mr. Allen operated the Edison Ranch (1900-1903).

Mrs. Allen died at her home in the Indian Creek community on June 8, 1907, at the age of 46. The family had made a trip by train to see relatives back in Lynchburg, Tennessee, the previous year. When Mrs. Allen said her good-byes to her parents, no one dreamed that Mrs. Allen would become ill and die so quickly.
