Ralph Lloyd Carter, youngest son of Jobe and Eliza Ann Fitzgerald Carter, was born in Davis county, 5 miles southwest of Eldon, Iowa, May 6 1888, moving to Eldon with his parents when a small boy. He departed this life in Eldon, Iowa, January 14, 1940, at the age of 51 years, 8 months and 8 days.

He was united in marriage to Flossie Mae Brown in Ottumwa, Iowa, February 19, 1910, and to this union were born 4 daughters and 8 sons.
He entered service with the C.R. I and P. Railroad as a brakeman in 1910, transferring to a switchman in 1913, in which capacity he was serving at the time of his death. He was a member of the S.U. of N.A. Switchman's Union.
He is survived by his wife, Flossie; 3 daughters, Mrs. Naomi Starr of Washington, Iowa; Mrs. Ruthleen Bucy of Ottumwa, Iowa and Delores at home; 7 sons, Kenneth, Nick, Rex, Thomas, Richard, Arthur and Ralph Norman, all at home; two grandchildren, Larry and Karen Kay Bucy of Ottumwa, Iowa.
Besides these, he also leaves 1 brother, J.W. Carter of Eldon, Iowa, and two sisters, Mrs. Lela Armintrout of Eldon, Iowa, Mrs. Rella Erskines of Lincoln, Neb., several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 17, 1940 at 1:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. E.M. Gregson of the Eldon Baptist church. Chas. O. Plank, O.E. Cahill, Simon Trout, C.E. Appleby, H. Marshall and H.J. Carter carried him to his final resting place in the Eldon Cemetery.
