FUNERAL SERVICE HELD FOR S. B. BARFOOT
Funeral services were held for Samuel Samuel Baxter Barfoot, age 64, life-long resident of Union and Newton county, Saturday, January 28, 1939, at the Union Baptist Church with a host of sorrowing relatives and friends present.
Officiating were the Rev. Montie A. Davis, pastor of the Union Baptist Church, Rev. Gordon Sansing, pastor of the New Ireland Baptist Church, Rev. G. O. Parker, pastor of the Baptist Church of Magee, Miss., Rev. Eugene Stevens, Meridian, Miss., and Rev. L. M. Sharp, Methodist pastor at Union.
Several numbers were rendered by the choir and Mrs. W. P. Cassel gave a beautiful rendition of "When They Ring Those Golden Bells."
Interment followed in the Union cemetery at 10 a. m. Sunday.
Active pall-bearers were: Lamar Hunter, Will White, Grady Stamper, Lon McBeath, Hubert Henry and Marshall Lewis.
Honorory pall-bearers were all the friends of the deceased.
Union Funeral Home was in charge.
He was survived by his widow, Mrs. Ola Barfoot; 3 sons, Fred of Union, Dr. J. C. Barfoot, Philadelphia, and Dr. C. B. Barfoot, Gadsden, Ala.; two daughters, Mrs. Wilburn Cooper, Starkville, and Mrs. Harold W. Davidson, Meridian; several grand children; three brothers, Otto and Leon, Union, Edwin, of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Russell, West Columbia, Texas, Mrs. Ludie Hays, Houston, Texas and Mrs. Ruth Russell, Belin, New Mexico.
He was a life-long member of the Baptist church of New Ireland where he served as clerk until his death. He was very active in community and church affairs and was widely known and respected throughout the state.
