Services for Barbara Ellen Shafer, 81, of Tyler, will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Green Acres Baptist Church with Dr. David Dykes and Mr. Roland Saunders officiating.Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Shafer passed away Monday, August 1, 2016, in Tyler.She was born February 13, 1935, in San Antonio to Harley Thomas and Lillie Mae Wilson Tatom.Among the many things Barbara enjoyed were painting and playing mahjong with friends. She especially enjoyed the time spent with her Sunday school class. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin Shafer; and brother, Thomas Tatom.She is survived by her loving family including children, Pat Osborne of Tyler and David Shafer and wife Dorothy of Herbert, N.C.; grandchildren Sarah Pierce and husband Brandon, Jason Mayfield and wife Dawn, Tom Shafer and wife Jenny, Jon Shafer and wife Anna, Brian Shafer and Jessica Shafer; and five great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Mayfield, Tom Shafer, Tom Tatom, Brandon Pierce, Roland Saunders, Venus Brooks, John Allred, Rex Ponder and John Childs.
