David Bruce Hallsted, 62, passed away July 27 at Good Samaritan Health Center in Alliance.

Cremation has been carried out and the family will hold a memorial service in the fall for family and special neighbors and friends.

David was born Oct. 31, 1948 to Jim and Dorothy Hallsted, in Chadron. He grew up on the family farm south of Chadron, attending Prairie Home School on the Table. David was faced with medical challenges all his life and he attended Chadron High School briefly, he eventually earned his GED. In later life David returned to school by taking college classes at WNCC in Sidney. He especially enjoyed computer classes and business management.

David was employed in a series of ranch-hand jobs throughout the panhandle and into the Sandhills. He particularly liked cattle work and the opportunity to be astride a horse.

Shortly before retiring, Dave worked at Cabela’s warehouse in Sidney.

David loved the western life, enjoyed country music, western movies, and Baxter Black.

David is survived by: his mother Dorothy Hallsted Waldron of Chadron, sister Cecelia Ray of Chadron; brothers Don Harrison of Santa Fe, Texas, and Neil Hallsted of Buffalo Gap, S.D.; Special niece Leslie Kerner of Chadron; nieces Cary Ponce of Hardington and Amy Harrison of Houston; nephews J. C. Hallsted of Chadron and Jarrod and Eric Harrison of Houston; five grandnieces and six grand nephews.

David was preceded in death by his father Andrew James “Jim” Hallsted, sister-in-law LaDonna Kay Hallsted and a grandnephew.
