Steven R. McClelland, 24, of Council Bluffs, died Wednesday, October 16, 1974, from the injuries he received in a house explosion and fire that occurred on Sunday, September 22, in Council Bluffs.


Steven and his brother-in-law, Stuart Lamkins, had entered a relative's house on 40th Street in Council Bluffs, when the house suddenly exploded. Both were taken to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Stuart Lamkins, who was burned, is currently a therapy outpatient with the hospital. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.


Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 18, at Meyer Funeral Home in Council Bluffs. Memorials may be made to the family in his memory. The casket will remain closed for both the visitation and funeral services.


Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 19, at Meyer Funeral Home Chapel in Council Bluffs, with Rev. Richard D. Hogan, pastor of First Christian Church, Council Bluffs, officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.


Steven R. McClelland was born April 24, 1950, in Council Bluffs, the son of Alan and Rosella (LaChappell) McClelland. He graduated from Council Bluffs High School in 1968. He married Jennifer Lamkins. He was currently employed as a truck driver for Peets Feed Company. He was a member of First Christian Church in Council Bluffs.


Surviving are his wife, Jennifer; two sons, Roger Alan and Rodney Alan, both at home; his parents, Alan and Rosella McClelland of Council Bluffs; one sister, Karen (Harvey) Wells of Council Bluffs; two brothers, Douglas (Mary) McClelland and Paul (Ann) McClellan, both of Council Bluffs; and one step-grandfather, George Davis of Council Bluffs.
