Obituary - Memorial Service Set For Lost Man

A memorial service is planned Monday, Dec. 16, 1974, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in LaConner for Donnie Cayou, 19, who was lost Sept. 4 from a gillnet fishing boat off the mouth of the Skagit River.

A fishing partner was asleep on the boat at the time and when he awoke, Cayou was gone. An extensive search was conducted by divers and by aircraft, with no results. In addition to the Skagit County Sheriff's Department search, volunteers from the Swinomish and Lummi Indian tribes combed the area.

A Mass will be conducted by Father David Brant and a marker will be placed in the Swinomish Indian Cemetery. A reception at the Swinomish Tribal Center will include eulogies from Donnie Cayou's friends and acquaintances. The family suggested contributions to the Swinomish Indian Smokehouse being constructed for tribal ceremonies, or, for a headstone.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Agnes Cayou, a baby daughter, Naomi Cayou, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Chester Cayou, a grandmother, Aurelia Stone. There are four sisters and two brothers and several aunts and uncles.
