Leonard "Smitty" Smith
Leonard D. Smith, 87, passed away Thursday morning at home with his loving family. He was born June 18, 1907, in Pocatello, Idaho, the oldest child of Louis S. and Clara Donner Smith. Several years later his family moved back to Billings and resided here until 1971 when they retired in Worden.
Leonard and Ruby P. Ewalt were married Aug. 16, 1928, in Billings. Four children were born to this union. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1978.
Leonard worked many years at Foote Sign Co. and in 1942 changed jobs and worked at Billings Senior High School when he retired. He was also a lifetime member of IATSE Local No. 240 as a stagehand. His hobby was building model railroads.
He is survived by his children Mrs. Vernon (Lenora) Brakke of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mrs. Jerry (Beverly) Graham of Eugene,Ore., Mrs. Dan (Roxana) Hofferber of Gordonville, Texas, and one son, Lewis L Smith of Montgomery, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at Dahl Funeral Chapels. Interment following services will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Dahl Funeral Chapels is in charge of arrangements.
