Rollie Sargent was born on March 30th, 1925, in the Central Iowa area near Marshalltown, he was the son of Rollie Ray and Lena (Thorp) Sargent, Sr. He graduated from the Marshalltown High School's Class of 1943. Immediately following, he served our country honorably in the United States Air Force flying as a tail gunner in a B-17 "Flying Fortress." Besides WWII, he served during the Korean War as well. Rollie was united in marriage to Charlotte Willard and later to Dottie Pals. He lived in Marshalltown all of his married life where he was employed at the Iowa Electric Sutherland Station, owned and operated Sargent Floor Care Services, and later RACOM. He was an active member of the Center Street Baptist Church (their choir as well), past IBEW member, and enjoyed traveling anywhere but especially his trips to the Holy Land and Germany, singing in the Messiah and Marshalltown Men's Chorus, bowling with family and friends, eating out, building dollhouses and woodworking and was very proud of his family and his military history. Rollie was a man of faith and that trust comforts his family at this difficult time.
Rollie Sargent, 81, passed away November 30, 2006, at Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center while in the care of his family and Iowa River Hospice. Left to mourn his loss are his daughter, Jennifer (Larry) Murty of Marshalltown, grandchildren USMC Lance Corporal Tim Harris of North Carolina, Tony Harris, Abby Murty and Amanda Behun all of Marshalltown, son-in-law Paul Behun of Eldora, Dottie's family and other family members as well as a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, his daughter Laura Behun, his wife Dottie Pals Sargent and former wife Charlotte Willard Sargent and his grandson John Matthew Primrose. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 4th, at the Center Street Baptist Church with Pastor Hirsch Chizever and former Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with full military honors by the VFW Harry C. Harter Post #839. Memorials may be directed to the Center Street Baptist Missions fund or the Iowa River Hospice Building Fund in his memory.
